PRAISE POEMS
by Mary Harwell Sayler

What do I do, Lord
when I’m feeling overwhelmed
by waves of work or worry –
without a moment to breathe
deeply enough to perceive
my need to pray?

I don’t want to keep sighing
or fixing my focus on
anything but you!

And yet, I do.

Forgive me, Father! Lift
me higher than this heaviness
and into a deep desire
of heavenly praise for You.

Praise God Who listens
when no one else will,
when no one else notices
our problem,
our pain,
or the terrible loneliness
that comes
in dark hours when only
our God Who listens
truly hears and responds.

Praise God your Lover
Who embraces you
like a blanket wrapped
around the chill of your life
and holds you –

insulated from evil,
protected from attack,
cloistered in comfort,
cocooned in Christ –

until, reassured,
you risk life again
and rise in the lift of God’s love.

AUTUMN/FALL PRAYER

God of Seed and Harvest

We bless you,
God of Seed and Harvest
And we bless each other
That the beauty of this world
And the love that created it
Might be expressed though our lives
And be a blessing to others
Now and always
Amen.
